I've always thought of ravens as dark and mysterious, but after a few trips to Lake Powell, I've become more intrigued with them. In Powell, we would sleep under the stars on top of the house boat. every morning, the Raven families would caw and fly over the top of us; their powerful wings carrying them through the deep canyons in search for their morning meals. We would watch them fly down from their nests on the steep cliffs walls with their young following behind them. I knew that I wanted to learn more about them, and that I definitely wanted to paint one. I chose to do a contemporary background for this particular piece, and love how it turned out!
