"The Lord is My Rock". Original painted in oils on a 30x40" linen canvas.
“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Saviour”
– 2 Samuel 22: 2-3
In reflecting on a very difficult time in my life, and the many unexpected trials and hardships my family had to endure during that time; It was through these difficult and painful trials that I found myself contemplating my faith the most. During the darkest of times, I felt tremendous loss and fear. It seemed that the only time I felt warmth and peace was down on my knees; asking, even begging God for courage and strength to help me endure. My prayers were never left unanswered. Each time, I felt the deep and tremendous love my Savior has for me. The frequent tender mercies were confirmation of his individual awareness of me. What would any of us do without our Savior? He is my rock and my shield; standing firm and unwavering against the great storms of life. Through him, I can endure ALL things.
To illustrate my vision for my painting, I envisioned Christ standing strong and firm as a “high tower”, amongst his beautiful creation (the earth); the forceful wind gusts, passing through his robe, tossing it too and fro. But the Savior remains still, like a rock; feet planted firmly in the ground. His expression conveys peace, and he’s facing into the light. Through him, we too can feel peace and comfort in the calamities of life as we turn toward the light. Upon completing my painting, I noticed that many of the lines in the red-rock cliffs point directly to Christ. In relation to life, how often in our daily pursuits do we fail to recognize the simple signs directing us to Christ? Are we so busy that we miss his presence in all things? My hope is that my painting can bring hope to those who feel lost in the struggle; that they too, can lean on the Savior for support through the most difficult of times, and seek refuge in the great storms of life. As you watch my time lapse video, may you feel christ’s power and strength, and be inspired to make the changes in your life that will bring the greatest happiness for you and all who surround you. https://youtu.be/Xf7ObY24bQU
